365体育世界杯AstraZeneca has been recognised for its actions to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks, develop the low-carbon economy and sustainable management of water resources, by global environmental impact non-profit CDP, based on the data submitted by the company through CDP’s 2019 questionnaires. The company is one of a small number of high-performing companies to achieve double ‘A’ listing out of thousands scored, and one of just three companies worldwide to achieve double ‘A’ listing for four consecutive years.
CDP’s annual environmental disclosure and scoring process is widely recognised as the gold standard of corporate environmental transparency. In 2019, over 525 investors with over US$96 trillion in assets and 125 major purchasers with US$3.6 trillion in procurement spend requested companies to disclose data on environmental impacts, risks and opportunities through CDP’s platform and over 8,400 responded.
A detailed and independent methodology is used by CDP to assess these companies, allocating a score of A to D- based on the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks and best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious and meaningful targets.
365体育世界杯Katarina Ageborg, EVP Sustainability commented:
Preserving natural resources is a key part of our Environmental Protection strategy. We must all do more to meet the growing environmental challenges society faces and I’m delighted that our ambitious climate and water strategies have been recognised by CDP for four years running. I’m really proud of the many colleagues across the company who have accepted the challenge to reduce our environmental impacts and increase our business efficiency.
This recognition follows our recent Ambition Zero Carbon announcement of our intention to bring forward our decarbonisation plans by more than a decade. Our scientific approach to environmental sustainability reduces our environmental impact by protecting our air, land and water, reducing our dependence on natural resources and ensuring the environmental safety of our products. We were one of the first FTSE100 companies to set and we are leading in our industry on pharmaceuticals in the environment.
Paul Simpson, CEO of CDP, said:
Congratulations to the companies that achieved a position on CDP’s A List this year, for leading in environmental performance and transparency. The scale of the business risks from the climate emergency, deforestation and water insecurity are vast – as are the opportunities from addressing them – and it’s clear the private sector has a vital role to play at this critical time. The A List companies are leading the market in corporate sustainability, tackling environmental risks and setting themselves up to thrive in tomorrow’s economy.
The Climate Change and Water Security A Lists are published by CDP each year alongside the A List for leadership on tackling deforestation.
